Starbucks

Starbucks has finally made the leap into the world of single serve coffee. These are their brand new machines. I am going to show you all the ins and outs, how they work and all the different features. I hope my verismo reviews will be helpful to you and give you a bit of an insight into the positive and negative points of the Verismo Starbucks coffeemaker. Note: This is my personal experience with the Starbucks Verismo 580.

A few positive points:

  • The Starbucks Verismo isn’t a big machine, but it does a lot for its size.
  • The Verismo is fast, there is no waiting because it heats up in eight seconds!
  • It’s very easy to use and very easy to clean.
  • A lot of parts and accessories are available.
  • Available in different colors.

A few negative points:

  • You can’t place your travel mug under the machine.
  • No visible temperature control on the Verismo 580.
  • They don’t sell Verismo pods at the Starbucks stores.

The Verismo is very reliable, really off the charts. I’ve had this one for 6 months and it has never once hiccuped.

The First Brew

Before the first time you use the Verismo, you should rinse it at least 5 times. After that, you’ll be prompted to rinse the coffeemaker every time you turn it on. Only the Espresso button at the top will be lit, indicating you to rinse the machine before you make your first coffee or espresso. After rinsing is done, the three buttons will be lit indicating it’s ready to brew. The rinsing helps to keep the Verismo clean.

The adjustable drip tray

adjustable drip trayThe Verismo Coffeemaker comes with a height-adjustable drip tray which contains a removable riser. You can place your cup very close to the drip nozzle or you just remove it so you can place larger cups.

The handle

The handleLift the handle all the way to the back so it’s at a 90 degree angle. After inserting the pod of your choice, close the handle quickly in one continuous motion. As you close the handle you feel some tension, but this is normal. This pressure you are feeling indicates that the machine punctures the pod before brewing. After brewing your coffee or espresso, simply lift the handle and the used pod drops into the discard bin which is inside the machine.

The buttons

Press it after inserting a coffee pod.    milk buttonThis is the Milk button on your machine. Press it after inserting a milk pod to make steamed milk for your espresso.

How to use the Starbucks Coffee Maker

verismo review - water tankI am going to show you how the Verismo works. First you fill the water tank. Fill it up all the way to the black line, and then slide the tank back into place. Turn the Verismo on with the power button on top, and you’ll notice the first  thing that’s happening is the lights are blinking. The blinking lights means that it is heating up.  Now that it is heated up, you take a cup and do a rinse cycle. It’s really important to do a rinse cycle first to make sure the coffeemaker is properly heated. It’s important to do this before you use the machine after you turn it on, each and every time. All you do is press the espresso button (this doubles as a rinse button), and as the water runs through this is heating up the internal system and making sure that the coffee is ready to be brewed.

How to brew a Latte

verismo review - brewed coffeeThe Verismo pods come in three different varieties. There is a pod for brewed coffee, an espresso pod and a milk pod. First, drop the milk pod into the machine and close the handle in one swift motion. Then take your cup, put it underneath the machine and press the bottom button, which is the milk button. Once the milk is finished brewing, I take an espresso pod, open up the handle and drop the espresso pod in. Again closing it swiftly and firmly, and press the espresso button, which is the top button. The buttons might blink for a few seconds, which means it is actually bringing itself up to temperature. Now the espresso will brew right into your brewed milk and you have made yourself a perfect latte.

How to make a brewed coffee

The brewed coffee pods are a little different, there is a piece of foil on the top. Just remove the foil before you drop it into the Verismo. Lift up the handle and drop the pod in. This time press the middle button, which is the brewed coffee button. Simple as that.

How to clean the Verismo

All you have to do is pull out the pod tray. There is a used pods container inside behind the drip tray which holds about 10 pods before you have to put it in the trash, and empty and clean the drip tray. That’s it!
